The WMAC story began when David Downes (Kyokushin Karate) and Peter Macleod (Wellington Hapkido Academy) got together in 2019 as it became obvious that all the martial arts clubs based in the then Oxford Tce premises would have to move as the building was going to be sold.
Initially we asked other club members to join a syndicate to buy permanent premises. Very few people were willing to do this, so we took a lease on premises via WMAC and provided spaces to those clubs wanting quality premises in the Te Aro, Wellington, area.

With Wellington Martial Arts Centre (WMAC), we wanted to create dedicated premises that would be a hub for many different types of Martial Arts in Wellington Central and to provide space to others such as Pilates, Feldenkrais, Tai Chi and organisations wanting day-time program space.
WMAC provides two spaces with mats set in place, and kitchen and toilet facilities. One room has 10m x 9m mats and a row of seats; the other room has 9m x 5.5m mats and a small row of seats.
